Roofing service

Guttering across Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester & London

Gutter installation, repair, and cleaning for peace of mind. Prevent blockages, leaks, and foundation damage effectively.

Guttering is the least glamorous part of a roof and the part that causes the most avoidable damage. Its entire job is to take a very large volume of water off the roof and put it somewhere harmless. When it stops doing that, the water goes down the wall instead — and a wall that stays wet through a British winter leads to penetrating damp, spoiled pointing and, over time, problems at the foundations.

Most gutter problems are cheap to fix and expensive to ignore. A blockage, a dropped bracket, a failed joint or a downpipe that has come apart are all small jobs. The damp wall they cause is not.

Questions about guttering

How often should gutters be cleared?

As a general rule, at least once a year, and more often if there are trees overhanging the roof. Autumn is the usual time, since it is leaf fall that causes most blockages.

My gutter only overflows in heavy rain. Is that a problem?

It is worth looking at. It usually means a partial blockage, a fall running the wrong way, or a gutter that is undersized for the roof area feeding it. All three are fixable, and all three put water on your wall every time it rains hard.

Can you match old cast-iron guttering?

On period properties we can fit profiles that keep the original look. We will go through the options at the survey so the front elevation still looks right.
