FAQs
Roofing questions, answered plainly
The things homeowners across Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester and London ask us most — about surveys, emergencies, guarantees and looking after a roof.
Surveys & quotes
Is the roof survey really free?
Yes. Surveys and quotes are free and carry no obligation. We inspect the roof thoroughly, then give you a clear written quote and a plan explaining exactly what work we recommend. If the roof is sound, we will tell you it is sound.
What is the drone inspection?
A free drone inspection is part of every survey. It lets us see the whole roof properly — including areas that cannot be seen from the ground or safely reached by ladder — without walking on a covering that may be fragile. It also means you get to see the actual condition of your roof rather than taking a roofer's word for it.
Will the price change once work starts?
We quote clear fixed pricing with no hidden fees. If we open something up and find a problem nobody could have seen from outside — rotten rafter ends behind a fascia, for instance — we stop, show you, and price it before carrying on. You will not find out about extra work from the invoice.
How do I know whether I need a repair or a new roof?
That is exactly what the survey is for, and it is why we do not charge for it. We look at the covering, the battens, the flashings and the structure. Repeated repairs to the same roof, widespread slipping rather than isolated tiles, and perished felt at the eaves all point towards a re-roof — but one or two slipped slates do not.
Emergencies & leaks
Do you do emergency roof repairs out of hours?
Yes. We are available for emergency repairs 24/7 across Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester and London, including nights and weekends, with same-day emergency leak response available.
What should I do while I am waiting?
Get a bucket under the drip and move furniture and electricals out of the way. If water is collecting in a ceiling and the plaster is bulging, it is usually safer to pierce it deliberately with a screwdriver so it drains in one controlled place rather than letting the ceiling come down. Do not climb onto the roof yourself — particularly in the wind and rain that caused the problem.
My ceiling is stained but I cannot see a leak. Where is the water coming from?
Rarely from directly above the stain. Water that gets past the covering runs along battens and rafters before it drops, so the entry point is often some distance away — commonly a chimney flashing, a valley, or a slipped slate further up the slope. Finding the actual source rather than patching under the stain is most of the job.
The work itself
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured for all the work we carry out.
Is your work guaranteed?
All repairs are backed by a five-year workmanship guarantee. We walk you through the finished job and hand the guarantee over at the end.
Will you clean up afterwards?
Yes. Clearing the site properly is part of the job, not an extra.
Can you match my existing tiles or slates?
In most cases. Matching matters for how the roof weathers as well as how it looks from the street, so we source as close a match as we can in size, thickness and colour, and show you beforehand if an exact match is not available.
Do you work on period and heritage properties?
Yes. Much of the UK's older housing stock is Victorian, and slate roofs, lead valleys and brick chimney stacks of that age need repairs that are sympathetic to the original. On a heritage roof the aim is a repair that is not obvious from the street.
Where we work
Which areas do you cover?
We are based in Hounslow, TW5, and cover Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester and London, with roofers working in and around each city.
Are you a local firm?
Yes. AllPro Roofing Ltd is a family-run business, based in Hounslow, with more than ten years of roofing experience across Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester and London.
My area is not on your list. Can you still help?
Give us a call. The list covers where we work most often, not a hard boundary.
Looking after your roof
How often should I have my roof checked?
For most homes, once a year and after any serious storm is sensible. Older roofs, roofs with heavy moss growth and roofs under trees benefit from being looked at more regularly.
How often should gutters be cleared?
At least once a year as a general rule, and more often where trees overhang the roof. Autumn is the usual time, since leaf fall causes most blockages.
Does moss actually damage a roof?
It contributes. Moss holds water against the covering long after rain has stopped, and freeze-thaw over successive winters is what breaks the face off a tile. It also sheds into gutters and blocks them.
Should I let someone pressure-wash my roof?
Be careful. High pressure erodes the protective surface of concrete tiles and can drive water up underneath the courses, doing more harm than the moss it removes. The method has to suit the covering.
